Why funding is needed
Put simply — it works! Voters first passed the SCFD in 1988, and have twice renewed the cultural district — in 1994 and 2004. Funding for arts, science and culture still takes a back seat in most community budgets. This dedicated funding from the SCFD allows small and large organizations alike to develop a diversity of programming that offers something for everyone throughout the 7-county district. Additionally, SCFD funding provides some stability so these organizations are better able to survive economic ups and downs while protecting our cultural investments.
